Frequently Asked Questions?
Got questions? We’ve got answers! Check out some of our most common FAQs to learn more about how Patriot Estate Sales works and what to expect from your sale. If you don’t see your specific question answered here, don’t worry — we’re happy to help!
What do you charge for your estate sale services?
Our services are typically commission-based. We receive an agreed-upon percentage of the total sales proceeds. This means there are no upfront costs, and we’re fully motivated to get you the best prices possible. The average percentage is 30% but can be more or less.
How long does it take to set up an estate sale?
Most estate sales can be organized and staged within 7 to 10 days, depending on the size and contents of the property. However, we typically need access to the home at least two weeks before the sale to properly stage, price, and photograph items for promotion.
We also begin advertising your sale about two weeks in advance to ensure maximum visibility and attendance. This lead time allows us to reach our buyer network, local shoppers, and online estate sale followers — resulting in a stronger turnout and higher sales. Our team works efficiently while treating every item with care and respect.
What type of items sell at an estate sale?
We sell just about everything found in a home — furniture, antiques, jewelry, coins, tools, art, collectibles, vehicles, and much more. We also handle entire collections and historically significant items with targeted marketing to reach the right buyers.
One of our top recommendations to clients is this: don’t throw anything away before the sale! Estate sale shoppers buy just about everything — from fine antiques to everyday household items, tools, and even cleaning supplies. You’d be surprised what sells, and our goal is to help you turn as much as possible into cash.
What is the difference between an estate sale and an auction?
An estate sale is typically held inside the home and is conducted over one or more days. Each item is individually priced and sold directly to shoppers on a first-come, first-served basis. Estate sales allow buyers to browse freely, negotiate, and purchase items immediately — similar to a well-organized store setup.
An auction, on the other hand, involves competitive bidding, where items are sold to the highest bidder, either live or online. Auctions can be useful for rare, high-value, or specialized items, but estate sales usually produce more consistent overall results for entire households and collections.
At Patriot Estate Sales, we specialize in traditional estate sales, but we also partner with auctioneers when an auction format is the best fit for certain items or collections.
How do you track what sell at an Estate Sale?
At Patriot Estate Sales, we keep detailed records of everything sold during your event. Each item or category is logged through our point-of-sale tracking system or detailed manual sales tickets, depending on the setup.
Every transaction — from small household goods to high-value collectibles — is recorded to ensure complete transparency. After the sale, you’ll receive a summary settlement showing total sales, categories, commission breakdowns, and your final payout.
We take pride in running honest, accountable sales so our clients always know exactly what sold and for how much.
What happens to leftover items from the Estate Sale?
After the estate sale ends, we can help you arrange donations or coordinate a clean-out for any unsold items. Many local clean-out services and donation centers are happy to take leftover items at no charge, and we always try to find a service that does not add additional fees.
In some cases, when a free service isn’t available, there may be a small clean-out fee — which can often be covered directly from your sale proceeds. Our goal is to leave your property as empty and tidy as possible, saving you time and stress while ensuring usable items continue to help others in the community.
When do we payout the money from an Estate Sale?
We have a fast payout policy — our clients are typically paid within 2–3 business days after the sale concludes. We know how important it is to settle quickly, so we finalize the accounting, provide your detailed sales report, and issue payment as soon as totals are confirmed.
At Patriot Estate Sales, we pride ourselves on being one of the fastest-paying estate sale companies around — because we believe that getting you paid promptly is part of providing professional, trustworthy service.
